For years, a lot of us have been giving our homes eco-friendly makeovers without even knowing it. It's only recently that the term 'green' has gained immense popularity. Being a professional interior decorator and redesigner, my clients frequently rely on my expertise to transform their home's appearance within a single day by utilizing their existing belongings. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my business is witnessing the positive transformation of the homes of these women and the palpable sense of improvement in their well-being. Before starting your own eco-friendly home makeovers, there is one crucial step you must take. Once this step is completed, you can follow the straightforward formula outlined below.
Please clear the room you're currently working in.
This may seem surprising, but it is the essential factor for a prosperous home makeover. After selecting the room for your eco-friendly renovation, eliminate any mess and discard things that don't bring you joy. Begin by first removing the smallest items and organizing them into groups according to their similarities. For instance, group all similar items together. Arrange art with art, group candles with candles, match lamps with lamps, organize plants with plants, and so on. You can retain your largest furniture item and gradually remove everything else.
Before you begin clearing out the room, it is important to establish its intended function. If you have a spacious room, you can utilize it for multiple purposes. For example, a family room can be designed to include various areas such as a TV section, an office space with a computer, a sewing section, and more. If you hardly ever use your formal dining room, it may be a good idea to transform it into a computer room.
Determine Your Focal Point: Your room will have a natural element (such as a view), a created focus (such as a television or art wall), or a built-in component (like a fireplace or bookshelves) that serves as the centerpiece. To ensure optimal viewing of your focal point and comfortable seating, it is recommended to arrange your furniture accordingly.
Although having two focal points is possible, it is suggested that one should be more prominent. If you happen to have a nicer view during summers rather than winters, consider rotating your focal points seasonally. During winters, the fireplace could be a great focal point.
Start by arranging your largest piece of furniture and determining the optimal placement while keeping functionality and focal point in consideration. Then rebuild the rest of the room around it. To achieve ideal furniture placement in your living room, consider arranging your sofa and chairs in a parallel configuration, a 'U' shape or an 'L' shape. Reconstruct the room by positioning the tables, bookcases, lighting fixtures, and sizable plants.
Organize your artwork by grouping them together to create a cohesive display in your home. Make an outline in the shape of a rectangle or square, using a common element. To properly hang an item over something, position its bottom 4-10 inches above. For gallery or floating art, ensure the center is marked at 56-60 inches from the floor.
Organize your accessories by grouping them together to provide the perfect finishing touch to your home. If you sorted all your accessories when you cleared out your room, finding the right place for them in your home should now be simpler. Whenever possible, arrange the group members into sets of three, with the tallest person positioned at the back, the middle-sized object in the center, and the shortest individual at the front. Accessorizing with a combination of high and low elements will help you achieve a more dynamic look.
